SUBJECT: Leadership in Abundance: Dr. Arnett – Chief Distance Education Officer

ATTACHMENTS: None

Colleagues,

As you probably know, Dr. Amy Arnett has been serving in the role of interim Chief Distance Education Officer since the position was vacated last fall. Amy has done an admirable job of helping the graduate program reach early goals, while serving as both Dean and Chief Officer. I’m writing today to announce the appointment of Dr. Amy Arnett to the position of Chief Distance Education Officer.

Dr. Arnett brings a history of academic and administrative success that continues to serve the institution very well as she works to ensure the success of distance education efforts at Unity College. Starting in 1999, Dr. Amy Arnett moved through faculty ranks at Unity College — first Assistant, then Associate, and finally Full Professor of Ecology. Dr. Arnett held various academic administrative posts prior to joining the Distance Education team as Dean of Curriculum and Instruction in July of 2016.

Dr. Amy Arnett is a 2009 Fulbright Scholar and served as Principal Investigator for Unity’s 2009-2015 NSF-funded HEMS study. She has published articles on biodiversity, biogeography, and other ecological subjects, and is a sought after pedagogical expert on experiential learning in the natural sciences. Amy Arnett received her Ph.D. from the University of Vermont where she did her research on geographic variation in life-history traits of a species of ant lion, a B.S. in Biology from the University of Michigan, and conducted post-doctoral research at the University of Nebraska.

As Chief Distance Education Officer, Dr. Amy Arnett will be the senior administrator of the Unity College distance education program responsible for all aspects of program development. The Chief Distance Education Officer reports to the President of the College.

Unity College is fortunate to have counted Dr. Arnett as part of our community for several years now. Please join me in congratulating her on as she transitions to more responsibility as Chief Distance Education Officer.

In Unity,

Dr. Melik Peter Khoury
President
